Study: Coffee Hydrates as Well as Water

Speaking of coffee, this recent study declares that coffee, despite the slight diuretic effects of caffeine, hydrates just as well as water. Nice to see this confirmed, though I never had any doubts.

It’s also worth giving extra attention to the final paragraph of the article:

She and her colleagues noted that public health recommendations to exclude caffeinated beverages from daily fluid needs or to drink a glass of water for every cup of coffee or tea consumed “should be updated to reflect [our] findings.”

I agree—but seriously, good luck with that one. Modern public dietary recommendations are embarrassingly behind the times, scientifically speaking.
